Discover how audiovisual technology and LED create the right setting

The completely renovated entrance and meeting area at the office of HEINEKEN International in the heart of Amsterdam is buzzing. It is a place where brand experience, hospitality and functional use come together perfectly. HEINEKEN’s IT team engaged AVEX at an early stage to help think about the audiovisual solutions to add to the brand experience in the revamped meeting area. In an intensive process, they worked towards something really beautiful.

Selection process

The new meeting space on the ground floor at Stadhouderskade was inaugurated in September and the response internally at HEINEKEN has been very positive. We go back to the start of this project some 1.5 years ago.

True Togetherness

The space is widely used daily for informal meetings, lunch and short meetings. In addition, it is also a place for presentations in small or large groups. All the screens in the room can be linked to form one large presentation setting, creating ultimate brand experience in the revamped meeting area.

Roderick Rademakers, IT Manager Corporate Office HEINEKEN: ‘In this meeting room, we also chose a large Absen LED wall. The screen is used for narrowcasting and for presentations. We chose this screen because of its brightness and colourfastness. The content must be sharp and clear in the room throughout the day, regardless of the light.

‘When you see how nicely the screen fits into the whole set-up. It is not a screaming screen that distracts attention but rather adds something. In addition, low power consumption was very important because we don’t want the impact on our energy requirements to be unnecessarily large. The screen also turns off completely after working hours and only starts up as soon as the first people arrive in the office.’

‘The wall works together with the presentation setup on the other side of the room, 25 metres away. and in addition to narrowcasting, it can also display the content of the presentation setup properly and without delay. This allows more people to attend the presentation and makes the feeling of True Togetherness, which we want to create for our employees, very achievable. We notice that physical togetherness in the office is slowly becoming more common, and this solution certainly contributes to that,’ Roderick says.

For hybrid meetings, the installation features Microsoft Teams Room integration with Yealink video cameras. Remote participants see the speaker and content. A second camera is there to show the entire room.

Brand experience in revamped meeting area

The interior of the HEINEKEN office breathes brand experience. The narrowcasting screens also display a lot of beautiful, branded content and current news. Via the Scala Digital Signage system, the content is sent to the right locations and screens throughout the building based on playlists.

Roderick: ‘HEINEKEN obviously has a lot of great brand content, yet we want to make some next steps in content. Therefore, for the overall content experience on screens throughout the property, we are working with AVEX’s Content Creation team to see how they can create the right templates and style for us.

Ease of use

Because many different settings are possible, it is important to ensure ease of operation. Fabian Kerkhof, Technology Specialist HEINEKEN: ‘AVEX has set up the entire audiovisual system in this multifunctional room in such a way that it is very easy to operate via a touch panel. As a result, we as IT team do not have to be constantly present at events and often just explaining once is enough for people to use the system.’

To control the audio, the room is divided into zones that are switched on as required with a simple click. Because of the high ceiling, additional Bose Professional speakers with a wide opening angle have been used. A handheld microphone is available for speech intelligibility during Teams sessions, and a Shure array ceiling microphone has also been deployed for added convenience.
